So, 23rd September marks the launch of the Apple Online Store in India and this is a very big step for Apple in India. This will attract more customers to Apple Products because up until now, customers were only able to purchase them through e-commerce websites like Amazon and Flipkart or Apple Authorised Resellers like Indiaistore and others. Also, the option to configure Macs wasn’t available. All of this is set to change, now the Apple Store Online has launched in India. And today, I will discuss how this will be beneficial both for the customers and Apple.
For the customers, this makes the experience of buying an Apple Product a lot easier. Now, you get more ways to pay. You can pay using a Credit Card or a Debit Card, by EMI, RuPay, UPI, Net Banking and you can even pay on delivery using a Credit Card. Keeping in mind the current situation of COVID-19, they are also providing contactless delivery and of course, the delivery is going to be free.
There is also an option to chat with Apple Specialists if you want any assistance with purchases, and assistance will be provided in both English and Hindi. Apple will also provide customers with a free 1 to 1 session to help them discover the features of their new device and cover the basics of using their device so they could get used to their device. Along with that, starting in October, customers will get free Today at Apple sessions focused on Photography and Music by local creative professionals.
Now, there is also an option to trade-in your old iPhone for a new one. Do keep in mind that the trade-in value will differ based on the model, the year of purchase, condition, etc. of your device and you can get up to Rs. 35,000 off if you trade in an iPhone XS Max. Along with this, you can now buy Apple Care+, which extends your warranty by up to two years That’s a life-saver since Apple products are very costly to repair.
Now, for the most awaited feature, you can configure your own Mac. I think that everybody was waiting for this feature for a very long time. Earlier, if you wanted a Mac, you had to choose from the few pre-built options that the resellers had created but now you can customise your Mac to your liking. You can change the processor, the RAM configuration, the storage or the graphics card of your Mac.
This move by Apple has hugely been in favour of the consumers, mostly. You see, the prices on the Apple Store are a bit higher than on other websites. For instance, at the time of writing this article, the iPhone 11 64GB White version, without Apple Care+ costs Rs. 66,990 on Amazon. Whereas the same model costs Rs. 68,300 on Apple Store. This price difference further increases as we go up to the iPhone 11 Pro Max which for the 64GB Midnight Green version costs Rs. 99,990 on Amazon and costs Rs. 1,17,100 on the Apple Store. That’s a Rs. 17,110 difference. So, I think this is an area where Apple needs to work, but I’m sure that Apple will do something about it as they always do.
Now, Let’s talk about how this move will affect Apple’s position in India. Apple had already announced that they would be bringing their Online Store and later the offline store to India. This is accompanied by Apple’s key manufacturer, Foxconn, investing in India. Personally, I think that they’re trying to invest in India to capture the Indian market as the customs duties and tariffs are very high on the goods manufactured outside India.
This will help Apple by increasing its profit in the Indian market and also bring the costs down by quite a bit for the consumers in India. In my opinion, this move will make the iPhone a viable option for consumers in India and ultimately benefit both Apple and the consumers.
Good informative article. Hope this move by apple proves really beneficial for the lovers of its products in India.
